Ronald McClure

Ronald McClure passed away, Friday, November 6, 2020.

Ronald “Ron” Edward McClure, 73, was born July 4th, 1947 in Des Moines, IA and passed away in Plattsburg, Missouri at the home of his daughter on November 6th, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was for the most part, a lifelong resident of Dallas Center, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Linda Ann Leibold on September 7th, 1969 in Dallas Center, IA at the First Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death. He married Linda Biery Campbell in September 1982 and they later divorced. 

He graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School in 1965. He went on to attend Iowa State University, studying agronomy. After college, he moved back to Dallas County and began farming, and working at Pilkington Equipment in Granger in the winters, earning Farmer of the Year during the 1980s. After farming, he worked for Baer Ag. Supply in Waukee, IA for several years. He owned McClure Ag. Ltd, providing custom ag application from 1995 to 2003. He finished out his career at Crossroads Ag. in Adel, Iowa.  

Ron loved his children and grandchildren. He also loved to garden, hunt, fish and was always on the hunt for big walleye in Northern Minnesota, especially Leech Lake, Lake Vermillion, and Lake Kabetogama. His most prized catch was a 45” muskie he caught at Woman Lake with his best friend Jim Finch. He had an incredible love for and knowledge of nature. He knew species of all kinds of wildlife and plants. He was also a fantastic storyteller, recounting many stories of our ancestors. He loved to laugh and joke and was always willing to help or lend a hand to those in need.  

He is survived by his daughters, Shannon (Keith) Hansen of Plattsburg, MO and Katie Cross of Waukee, IA. His grandchildren, his best fishing buddies, Jayden, Lily, Karlee, Randi Grace, and Luke Hansen and Haleigh, Ashlynn, and Tailor Cross and step-granddaughters, Bailey and MaKenna Oliver. A great-granddaughter, Isabella Watts. His siblings, Gary (Shirley) McClure, West Des Moines, IA, Dick (Linda) McClure, Dallas Center, IA and Carol (Denny) White, Winterset, IA. Many nieces, nephews and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert “Louie” McClure and Betty Jane Kelly McClure, and his granddaughters, Frances Raphael Hansen and Rita Marie Kuyrkendall.  

Funeral Mass: 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 9th at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Plattsburg.

Graveside Service: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11th at Dallas Center Cemetery (Former Masonic Cemetery), Dallas Center, Iowa with viewing at 2:30 p.m. prior to service at the cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at at later date.

Memorial: In lieu of flowers, family is requesting monetary donations be sent to the family, to create a nature program, Woodchuck Wave, for children at the Roy R. Estle Memorial Library, in honor of our Papa. It will provide the library and children in the Dallas Center community with nature activities and books, to inspire their own love of nature!
