Richard “Cooney” Thomas, 70, of Smithville, MO passed away, September 27, 2019.

He was born on April 8, 1949 to Aldella Cleveland and Mary (Baxter) Thomas in Kansas City, MO. Cooney grew up in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School. 

In June of 1969 he was united in marriage to Vicki Land. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home. Cooney was a meat cutter at Big V in Smithville and Kearney for many years. He also worked for Hy-Klas in Gower. He loved to coon hunt, raise cattle, but most of all Cooney loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Shane Thomas.

Cooney is survived by his wife, Vicki, of the home; sons, Randy Thomas and wife Kim and Steven Thomas and wife Ashley; daughter-in-law, Gay Lynn Thomas;  grandchildren, Taylor, Chase, Preston, Carson, Hudson, Dane and Charlie; sister, Shirley Webb, Linda Schroeder and husband Dwight and Debbie Thomas; brother, Mike Thomas; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday October 1st at Smithville Christian Church with visitation from 11am-1pm prior to the service.

Burial: Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery.
