Harold James Payne, 81, of Smithville, MO passed away October 29, 2020.

He was born on January 14, 1939 to James David and Mary Almeda (Evans) Payne in Hydro, Oklahoma where he grew up and attended school in a one room schoolhouse.

On July 29, 1961 he was united in marriage to Alice Josephine McMillen. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.  Alice passed away on May 15, 2009.

Harold worked for Kansas Home Insulation where he retired in 2009.  Harold and Alice enjoyed traveling and trying any and all restaurants they had read about. They also enjoyed spending time taking care of their property and observing the wildlife.  Harold loved skating even skating with his grandchildren in the basement.  Most of all Harold and Alice loved having family gatherings.  

Harold was also preceded in death by his parents David and Mary Payne; brothers Jack, Orvell, J.D., Joe, Luke, and Dean Payne; and sisters Thelma Harden, Ruth Webster, Jewel Love, Lucille Isaman, and Valeta Seurer. 

He is survived by daughter, Sherrie Gomez and husband Raymond; son, Raymond Payne and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Nina Gomez, Thea Gomez, Bria Seymour and Levi Payne; four great-grandchildren, Jada, Kylie, Delani, and Derek; brother Melvin Payne; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Graveside Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday November 4th at Second Creek Cemetery, Kansas City, MO

Donations may be made to the Hydro, Oklahoma Public Library.
