Erwin J. Zimmer, Jr.

Erwin J. Zimmer, 86, of Gladstone, MO passed away, November 6, 2018.

He was born on February 17, 1932 to Erwin John and Gertrude F. (Wachowski) Zimmer in Two Rivers, WI. Erwin grew up in Two Rivers and graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers.  He then served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. 

 On January 11, 1969 he was united in marriage to Peggy West. After their marriage they lived in Gladstone, MO where they made their home. 

Erwin retired from Wyeth Laboratories in North Kansas City as a warehouse supervisor. After his retirement he worked in the sporting goods department and maintenance at Walmart in Gladstone. 

He attended North Heartland Community Church in Kansas City, MO. Erwin was avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed carving and painting mallard ducks and was a NASCAR fan. Erwin loved to spend time with his family.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Benzshawel; his grandson, Andrew Zimmer, Jr.; and daughter in law, Anna Zimmer.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; of the home; children, Jay Zimmer and wife Christi, Nancy McFarland, Andrew Zimmer, and Stacey Gidman; grandchildren, Jason (Zandra), Leslie, Kelley (Jeff), Melissa, Stephanie (Steve), Lindsey (Matt), Dana (Brandon), Michelle, Galen, Grace, Graham, Gabrielyn, Gareth, and Gentle; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Kayla, Dylan, Gavin, Kaleb, Christian, Camden, Madison, Morgan, and Kadence; sister, Carol Gagnon; brothers, Kenneth Zimmer and Wayne Zimmer and wife Sue; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gordon and Jeanne West; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial with Military honors: Ridgely Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice or North Heartland Community Church Hope Fund (Benevolence Fund).
