Orville Ray Lanier

Orville Ray Lanier, 92, of Edgerton, MO passed away June 6, 2019.

He was born on July 27, 1926 to Emery and Violet (Leach) Lanier in Wilmot, KS where he grew up and attended school. Orville served his county in the US Army during WWII. After his honorable medical discharge, he returned to Wilmot, KS.

On March 24, 1951 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Davis. After their marriage they lived in the Kansas City, Plattsburg and Gower areas and in 1962 they moved to Edgerton where they made their home. 

He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Master’s Builders Mission Group and the Missouri State Campers on Mission. Orville was also a member of the American Legion Post #445 in Edgerton and the Disabled American Veterans. 

Orville retired from the Kansas City Missouri Post Office in July of 1984. He loved traveling with Trude, visiting most of the Continental United States. Orville enjoyed being with friends and family and was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Violet Lanier.

Orville is survived by his wife Trude Lanier; children Wanda Miller and husband Gary, Dean Lanier and wife Jeanne, Stanley Lanier and wife Tammy and Larry Lanier and wife Laura; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Lester Lanier and wife Arlene; sisters Doris Folsom and Thelma Williamson and husband J. D.; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

 Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edgerton

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Edgerton 

Burial with Military Honors: Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely, MO

Donations may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
