Naomi Johnson

Naomi Faith (White) Johnson passed away June 6, 2023 at home in Edgerton, MO.

She was born on October 18, 1931, to James Dee and Blanche (Reynolds) White on the farm near Platte City, MO. Naomi graduated from Camden Point High School in 1949 as valedictorian of her class consisting of six girls. During school her favorite class was basketball. After high school, Naomi attended Platte Gard Business School in St. Joseph graduating with a secretarial administrative assistant certificate.

On June 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Atkins “Buddy” Johnson at the Baptist Church in Camden Point, MO. To this union were born Jerry Dee Johnson, William Allen Johnson and Joy Annette Johnson. They raised their family near Edgerton on the family farm. Kenneth passed away on July 26, 1996.

Naomi worked for North Platte Elementary School in Edgerton, Kroger Grocery Company in North Kansas City, American Angus Association in St. Joseph, American Angus Hall of Fame in Smithville, and Healthy Families of Mid America in Smithville. She spent her last five years at the Smithville Christian Church where she retired in November of 2011. 

She was a member of Edgerton United Methodist Church where she served as the secretary, treasurer and choir director until the church closed. Later, Naomi joined the congregation of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Edgerton. She also served on the Missouri University Extension Council (4-H) and the board of WWB Villas Retirement Center in Edgerton and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Naomi was an active parent with FFA, 4-H and PTA. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and “Mamaw” and will be missed dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Johnson; sisters Martha Wilson and Maxine Davis and brothers Herman White and James White. 

Naomi is survived by her children Jerry Johnson, Bill Johnson (LeeAnn) and Joy Williams (Tom); granddaughters Kelly Weber (Robert) and Amy Williams; great-grandson Blake Weber; sister Deanna Boydston; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edgerton, MO

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 9th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edgerton, MO

Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower, MO
