Kenneth Scholle, Sr

Kenneth Earl Scholle Sr., 93, of Smithville, MO passed away, April 2, 2023.

He was born on July 1,1929 to Louis Carl & Sylvia Rae (Addison) Scholle in Wakenda, Missouri. He spent his early years living on the family farm with his parents & siblings in Carrollton, Missouri. On January 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to Esther L. (Radcliff) Scholle. Kenneth served in the United States Army from September 1951 until his discharge in August 1953; training in Fort Riley, Kansas and later serving in Fairbanks Alaska. After his discharge Ken & Esther moved back to Carrollton where their son, Kenneth Scholle Jr. was born in 1954. In August of 1955 they bought a home in Gladstone, Missouri where he worked as a machinist and later managed the Gladstone Rental. They welcomed their daughter, Denise (Scholle) Mullins in 1959.

Kenneth & Esther moved to Smithville in November 1963 buying a 40-acre farm on the East side, near Paradise Missouri, raising cattle. In 1970 Kenneth became a foremen & inspector for Damon Purcell Construction Company. They moved to the West side of Smithville (due to the dam) in 1977. This has been their homestead for the past 46 years. He retired from Purcell's on January 1, 1995. Taking care of the farm, cattle and gardening was an intricate part of his life. He enjoyed his garden, putting out large gardens even as he got older, sharing his wealth with the neighbors, until he could no longer physically maintain. He was always one to lend a hand, or let you borrow what you needed.

Kenneth was an active charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Platte City, Missouri. He was a member of the Boots & Bows square Dance Club in Smithville for many years and was active in the Jaycees in Gladstone.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Esther Louise (Radcliff) Scholle, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Louis & Sylvia Scholle, brothers & spouses, Louis Scholle Jr., Royce Scholle & wife Janelle, and sisters & spouses, Bernadine (Scholle) Cozad and husband Aven and Sharon (Scholle) Morse & husband Robert.
