Jim Lake

James Laverne Lake, 90, of Dearborn, MO passed away, November 26, 2022.

He was born on April 29, 1932 to Joseph James and Violet Evelyn (Hughes) Lake in Kansas City, MO. Jim grew up in Northern Heights and graduated from North Kansas City High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. 

 On August 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ida Mae Lindsey. After their marriage they lived in Northern Heights, in 1961 they moved to Parkville, and in 1969 they moved to the farm near Dearborn where they made their forever home with their daughters.

Jim was a pipefitter and welder for Trailmobile in North Kansas City and later was a maintenance repairman for Lantern in Kansas City. After his retirement he enjoyed farming. Jim was an avid gardener and sold his produce at the farmers market for many years. 

Jim served as a Deacon at the Dearborn Baptist Church and was later a member at The Rock of KC. He also served on the board of the Public Water District #9. Jim was an avid supporter of the North Platte Panthers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Billy Shanks.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ida of 67 years; daughters, Carla Shanks, Peggy Fryer, and Linda (Kevin) Jenkins; grandchildren, Summer, Heather, Colten, Abigail, and Joe; great-grandsons, Cameron and Braxton; other relatives. He will be missed by many.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17th at Dearborn Christian Church, Dearborn, MO with visitation one hour prior. Military Honors will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Billy Ray Shanks Memorial Scholarship for the North Platte School District in Jim’s honor.
