Donald LeRoy "Papa Don" Currier

Donald LeRoy “Papa Don” Currier, 88, of Platte City, MO passed away September 22, 2018.

He was born on January 23, 1930 to Carl and Lena (DuPlease) Currier in Essex, NY where he grew up and attended school. Don graduated from Willsboro High School in Willsboro, NY. He then served his country in the US Navy During the Korean War, serving on the USS NEW KENT. 

In 1989, Don was united in marriage to Catherine Nadine Owens. After their marriage, they made their home in Platte City. Nadine passed away on July 12, 2013. 

He was a member of the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City and the American Legion in Plattsburg.

Don worked for Whitaker Cable in St. Joseph and North Kansas City. After Whitaker Cable closed, Don was able to focus on what he did best which was building homes, general contracting and farming. He loved fishing, especially taking fishing trips to Canada. Don was a wonderful father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed. 

Don was also preceded in death by his daughter Karen Currier, his parents, infant brother and three sisters Elaine, Charlotte and Marlene. 

He is survived by his children Deena Roe and husband Joseph and Lon Zeigler and wife Denise; step-children Lisa Goin, DDS and husband Rick and John Bart Owens and wife Dana; grandchildren Brandon Aubrey, Spencer Rollins, and Colby Rollins; step-grandchildren Tyler and Lauren Goin and Tess, Bart and Tara Owens; great-grandson Bryson Aubrey; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, September 28th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville

Burial with Military Honors: Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburg.
