Carroll "Red" Harmeyer

Carroll “Red” Arnold Harmeyer, 84 of Smithville, MO passed away November 5, 2020.

He was born on June 13, 1936 to Arnold and Ida (Winneke) Harmeyer in West Point, IA where he grew up and graduated from West Point High School. Red served his country in the US Air Force as a Sergeant during the Korean War. 

He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Mason. After their marriage they lived in Burlington, IA and in 1965 they moved to Kansas City where they made their home and raised their three children Craig Edward, Judy Lee and Bradly Arnold. Barbara passed away in December of 1987. On December 1, 2001 he was united in marriage to Lois Taylor and in 2004 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.

Red retired from Ecolab in Kansas City. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Smithville American Legion Post #58 and the Knights of Columbus. Red enjoyed fishing with his fishing buddies, doing yard work, and golfing especially when he got a hole in one. He loved being around neighborhood kids and was known as Mr. Red or Papa Red. Most of all he loved being with his family, grandchildren and grand dog Relay. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Harmeyer; daughter Judy Hill; son Craig Harmeyer; parents Arnie and Ida Harmeyer; brothers Norb, Donnie, and Dick Harmeyer; and sister Joanne Laughlin.

Red is survived by his wife Lois Harmeyer; son Brad Harmeyer and wife Jennifer; step-daughters Dianne Tompkins and husband Mike and Angie Cornish; grandchildren Rachel, Mason, Cameron and Abby; great-grandchildren Gage and Easton; brother Gary Harmeyer and wife Joan; sisters Donna Mokricky and husband Vic and Mary Ann Asby; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Rosary: 6:00 p.m. with Visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday November 13th at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Smithville

Burial with Military Honors: Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Hospital.
