Elizabeth Connett

Elizabeth
Connett, 89, of Gower, MO passed away May 8, 2015.

She
was born on December 26, 1926 to Ray and Lula Lee Meier in Smithville, MO and
graduated from Smithville High School.
 

Elizabeth
attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK.
  She graduated with a degree in music.  Elizabeth was an accomplished concert
violinist.
  Her first public performance
was at age 5.
  She played for many events
throughout the Gower and Smithville areas over the years.

She
taught vocal and instrumental music in Clovis, New Mexico, Raleigh, North
Carolina, Kansas City, Missouri and the Smithville School District before
coming to teach music at East Buchanan in Gower in 1964.
  One of her passions in teaching music was
preparing her marching band for competitions, particularly the Apple Blossom
Parade in St. Joseph.
  As a teacher she
was often loved, occasionally feared and always respected.
  Elizabeth retired in 1994 after 43 years of
teaching.
  She continued to utilize her
fun loving and strong willed spirit throughout the community by being active in
the Meals on Wheels program, substituting at East Buchanan and traveling with
friends.

She
married Calvin Connett on October 10, 1953.
 
They made their home on Connett Farms near Gower.  She and Calvin spent many hours and traveled
many miles collecting and displaying antiques.
 
Calvin passed away on November 1, 1998.

Elizabeth
was an active and proud member of the Gower Christian Church.

She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Wyatt.

Elizabeth
is survived by her sons Brint Connett and wife Therese, Gower and Doug Connett,
Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Lucas Connett and wife Amanda, Gower and Kelly
Eschweiler and husband Seth, Olathe, KS; great-grandchildren Claire Elizabeth
Connett and Caroline Renee Connett; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial
Service:
  7:00 p.m. Monday, July 20th
with visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service at Gower Christian
Church AFC Building.
 

In
lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Gower Christian Church or
the Elizabeth Connett Memorial Music Fund.

Arrangements
Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
