Eldon Leroy Shipps

Eldon Leroy Shipps, 76, of Stewartsville, MO passed
away Wednesday, December 9, 2015.

 

He was born on May 26, 1939 to Roy Vernon and Hermione
(Hays) Shipps in Tarkio, MO.  Eldon grew
up in the Gower area and in 1957 graduated from Gower High School.  He served his country in the US Marines Corps
from 1957-1964.

 

On February 22, 1958 he was united in marriage to
Bonnie Lourine Roberts.  After their
marriage they lived in Edgerton, Trimble and in 1974 they moved to rural Gower
where they made their home.  Bonnie
passed away on February 13, 2001.  On
February 11, 2006 Eldon married Reva June (Green) Poppinga.  They made their home in Stewartsville.

 

Eldon was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist
Church and the Gower Lions Club for over 45 years. In 2004 he was recognized
for 50 consecutive years on the Gower/East Buchanan Football Field.  He went from a high school player, to an
official, to the sideline chain crew. 
Eldon enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was active in the boy
scouts.  He was a loving husband, dad and
grandpa.

 

He worked for American Can Company, Schuster’s Farms,
Boomsma, and he retired from Clay County Parks Department.  Eldon also served as Mayor and Marshall of
Trimble.

 

Eldon was also preceded in death by his parents,
brother Corwin Shipps, grandson Christopher Huff and great-grandson Henry Wieberg.

 

He is survived by his wife June Shipps; children
Ronnie Shipps and wife Eileen, David Shipps and wife Roxy, Terry Shipps, Hope
Burr and husband John, Stacey Wallace, Trena McSwain, and James Reed; eighteen
grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; sisters Joyce Pike and Phyllis
Fisher; brother-in-law J.C. Roberts; numerous nieces and nephews, other
relatives and many friends.

 

Funeral Service: 
10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14th at Hixson-Klein Funeral
Home, Gower

Burial:  Reed
Cemetery

Visitation: 
6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13th at the funeral home.

Donation:  Gower
Lions Club or Ebenezer United Methodist Church
