Duane M. “Murf” Fortner
Duane M. “Murf” Fortner, 73, of Gower, MO, passed away, August 26, 2010.
He was born on July 20, 1937 to Bill and Mary Frances (Sherwood) Fortner near Dearborn, Missouri. He grew up and attended school in Gower and in 1956 graduated from Gower High School. While in school “Murf” was the field goal kicker for the football team.
Murf dairy farmed most of his life, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Gower Christian Church. From 1956 to 2000 he served on the chain gang for East Buchanan High School Football Team. Murf was an avid follower of MU Football and East Buchanan Athletics. He also spent a lot of time helping people in the community.
Murf was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Derrick Fortner, and one great-nephew, Matthew Ryan Keniston.
He is survived by his brothers, Darrell Fortner and wife, Marcella and Doug Fortner and wife, Janeen, all of Gower; sister, Joyce Loutzenhiser, Auxvasse, MO; eight nieces and nephews, Devin, Megan, Brent, Stacy, Jamee, Alisha, Emily and Ashley, several great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
