Dorothy Mae (Leipard) Clifton

Dorothy
Mae (Leipard) Clifton, 96, of Platte City, MO passed away, Thursday, July 9,
2015.

She
was born on December 13, 1918 to Herman Lee and Willie Agnes (Phillips) Leipard
in Platte County, MO.  She attended
school at Farmers School near Platte City.

In
1934 she was united in marriage to D. Russell Clifton.  After their marriage they lived in Platte
County where they made their home. Her husband passed away in 1980.

Dorothy
was a member of the Hoover Christian Church for 67 years.  She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary
at Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville and Pathfinders with Platte-Clay
Electric.

She
worked as a baker for TWA and a bookkeeper for her husband’s business.  Dorothy was later a cashier at Ben
Franklin.  Dorothy also ran a catering
business with another lady for several years. 
She was famous for her dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, snickerdoodles, and
hand-quilting.

She
was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Billie G. Clifton, two grandsons,
two sisters, Lucille Jones and June DuBois, brother, L.H. Leipard, two infant
brothers, and son-in-law, Bob Croskell.

Dorothy
is survived by her children, Ada Croskell, David Clifton, Jr and wife Deanna,
Bobby Clifton and wife Barbara, daughter-in-law, Ann Clifton Weiss; twenty-one
grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-
grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral
Services:  10:00 a.m. Monday, July 13th
at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Burial:  Platte City Cemetery.

Visitation:  5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

may be made to Hoover Christian Church and Three Rivers Hospice.

    Dorothy has been our neighbor for years.  Always with a servants heart, she served those around her.  On one of my visits she gave me some of her special relish and even shared the recipe with me. She will be missed by all who know her.  May the power of God’s love carry the family through this time of sorrow.
