Dorothy “Dottie” M. (Emery) Blessing
Dorothy (Dottie) M. Blessing, 83, of Smithville, MO passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at her home.
She was born on August 2, 1925 to Floyd Milo and Myrtle Irene (Beagle) Emery in St. Joseph, MO where she grew up and in 1944 graduated from Benton High School.
On February 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Hugh J. Martin, Jr. They had four children. Hugh preceded her in death in 2005.
Dottie worked for various factories in the St. Joseph area and later worked for Smithville Convalescent Center/Beverly Health Care in Smithville for 28 years as a Dietary Supervisor.
She loved to crochet and play penny slots, most of all she loved being around her family and friends.
Dottie was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Diane Sipes and husband, Bob Riley, St. Joseph, James Martin and wife, Teresa, Oklahoma, Linda Irene Jones and husband, Donnie, Smithville, and Rosa Lee Edwards of the home; nine grandchildren, Cricket, Sophia, Bryan, Candy, Scott, Timmy, little Jimmy, Cody, and Jimmy; seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Burial: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home
