Donald Lee McDaniel
Donald Lee McDaniel, 87, of Kansas City, MO passed away, Sunday, March 4, 2012.
He was born on October 11, 1924 to William Lee and Lora (Quinn) McDaniel in Hemple, MO. Don graduated from Gower High School in 1942 . He then served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On March 25, 1950 he was united in marriage to Helen L. Smith. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph, MO, Waterloo, IA, and in 1966 they moved to Kansas City, MO, where they made their home. His wife, Helen, passed away, February 7, 2002.
Don worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Meat Inspector retiring in 1985. After his retirement he was a devoted grandfather and was very involved in their lives. In 2006 he moved to Kendallwood Hills Estates in Kansas City, where he met many new friends including his wife Marian. Don and Marian were married in 2007.
Don was a member of the Park Hill Christian Church, and a previous member of Gashland Presbyterian Church in Kansas City. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #393 in Gower.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Lowell McDaniel, and sisters, Elizabeth Carlyne Thompson and Hazel Ray Hempy.
Don is survived by his wife, Marian; daughter, Sharon Askey and husband Don; son, Steve McDaniel and wife Christine, all of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Jenifer Askey and fiance Jason Wustman and Stefani Askey and fiance Brandon Humphrey, and Erin Mueller and husband David and Kyle McDaniel and wife Nicole; great-granddaughter, Camryn Humphrey; sister, Carol Williams, St. Joseph, MO; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Barbara Smith, Gower; and his beloved dog, Dolly; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Honors: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Donations may be made to the Gower American Legion Post.
