Donald Jesse Coleman
Donald Jesse Coleman, 87, of Smithville, MO, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010.
He was born on March 18, 1923 to Daniel Emmet and Artie Lee (Jesse) Coleman in Smithville where he grew up and in 1941, graduated from Smithville High School. Donald then served his country in the US Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he later graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering.
On August 20, 1950 he was united in marriage to Anna Louise Ferguson. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.
Donald was a plant manager for Sunshine Biscuit and GAF Roofing both in Kansas City. Later, he and his wife owned and operated A and D Upholstery in Smithville. Donald also drove bus #7 for the Smithville School District for many years.
He was a member of the Church of God-Kansas City, served on the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department, was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol, was an Eagle Scout of Troop 412 and was a HAM Radio Operator.
Donald was preceded in death by parents.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; sons, Kevin Coleman and wife, Cindy and Ramon Coleman and wife, Kate; four grandchildren, Joshua Coleman, Preston Coleman, Rachael Coleman and Jonathan Coleman; several cousins including Sue Lake; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17th at the Smithville Christian Church with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
