Donald Eugene Mangels
Donald Eugene Mangels, 63, of Smithville, MO, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012.
He was born on March 1,1948 to George and Helen (Kovac) Mangels in Kansas City, Kansas. He grew up in Wyandotte, KS and later Smithville, MO. In 1966 Don graduated from Smithville High School. He worked for Yellow Freight Trucking Company on the weekends from 1964-1966 and starting working full time in 1966. Don was drafted to the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Smithville, MO and continued working for Yellow Freight. Don retired in 1998 after 32 years of service at the age of 50.
On June 21, 1969 he was united in marriage to Linda Sue Headrick. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.
Don was an avid crappie fisherman. He enjoyed being outside and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sharon Sweatman and Judy Williams.
Don is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; two daughters, Stacy Mangels-McClasky and husband, Mark, and Shelley Delich and husband, John; and granddaughters, Kayla McClasky and Victoria and Emily Delich; sisters, Susie Atkinson and husband, Chet, and Patty Scott and husband, Ed; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4th at Smithville Memorial Cemetery. The family will have a visitation time following the graveside service at Northview Heights Housing Community Building 161 Northview Heights, Smithville, MO from 2:30-6:00 p.m.
