Donald E. Sherwood

Donald E. Sherwood, 75, of St. Joseph, MO passed away, Sunday, May 1, 2016.

He was born on July 19, 1940 to John Braden and Leona (Wells) Sherwood in St. Joseph, MO.  Donald grew up in the Edgerton, MO area and graduated from North Platte High School in 1958.  He attended Central Missouri State University and University of Missouri.

Donald lived in St. Joseph for many years.  He worked for the State Highway Department   Donald operated an upholstery store in Edgerton and the Fellowship Upholstery Shop in St. Joseph.  He enjoyed music, historical research, and writing poems and songs.  He was a member of the St. Joseph Chapter Missouri, Writer’s Guild, Arbor Day Foundation, Pony Express Historical Association, and several other historical and writer-poet organizations.  He took an active interest in civic matters including attending St. Joseph City Council Meetings and other public governmental meetings.  He was a published author of songs and poems and had several articles published in the St. Joseph News Press.  Donald volunteered for the InterServ Meals on Wheels Program and donated his time to the Calvin Center Senior Meals Site.

Donald was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald is survived by two brothers, Harold Sherwood and wife Sharon, Platte City, MO and Gordon Sherwood and wife Vicki, Edgerton, MO; four nephews and one niece; several great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services:  2:00 p.m. Monday May 9th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton, MO with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial:  Davis Chapel Cemetery.
