DONALD D. LEDFORD

Donald D. Ledford, 75, of Smithville, MO, passed away, August 3, 2006 at North Kansas City Hospital. Don had suffered from multiple health problems for approximately 20 years after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He was born on December 17, 1930 to Victor F. and Mavis M. (Shisler) Ledford in Sidney, MO. Don grew up on a farm and attended elementary school in Sidney Community. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1949. He then attended Kirksville State Teachers College, and continued helping on the family farm until he was inducted into the US Marine Corps on March 19, 1952. He received his honorable discharge as a Corporal on March 9, 1954.

On June 22, 1956 he was united in marriage to Wanda J. Parrish.

Don accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized on November 22, 1974. He was a member of the Claycomo Church of Christ.

He worked for Burlington Railroad in North Kansas City, retiring after his cancer surgery with 31 years of service.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by; his wife, Wanda, of the home; son, Darrell Dean Ledford and wife, Annie, Smithville, MO; special grandson, Wesley Dean Ledford, who he enjoyed playing with when his health permitted; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Evelyn Gray, Blue Springs, MO; three nieces, Selinda Gray Webb, Nancee Rankin and Julee Meiners and their families; one uncle, Victor Shisler and his wife, Edna Unionville, MO; one aunt, Helen Current, St. Joseph, MO, and several cousins

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville with visitation one hour prior to service.
Burial: Tuesday, August 8th Plainview Cemetery, Pollock, MO, with military honors.

Donations: Plainview Cemetery.

    Don was a first cousin and best friend we spent many quality days an owners together growing. Up. We were together constantly.
