David Wayne Swope
David Wayne Swope, 52, retired US Navy, of St. Joseph, MO and Trimble, MO passed away June 13, 2016.
He was born on October 20, 1963 in St. Joseph, MO. David graduated from Plattsburg High School and was an Eagle Scout.
He then served his country in the US Navy where he retired as a BM2 after 15 plus years of service. He served during the Operation Iraqi Freedom Expeditionary, Operation Enduring Freedom Expeditionary and Global War on Terrorism. David received numerous awards during active duty and volunteered with the Sea Cadets and Navy Recruitment.
David was a member of the VFW in St. Joseph, MO and he worked for St. Luke’s Northland Hospital in Smithville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his adopted parents Lee Swope and Faye Edwards.
He is survived by his mother Joan Carol Pankau; adopted brothers Craig and Lee Swope; close friends who took care of him David and Tory Carter and Vickie Lykins; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19th with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. all at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO
Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 20th at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
Donations may be made in his memory to the funeral home.
