David “Butch” Hyatt

James David “Butch” Hyatt, 72, of Smithville, MO passed away, Monday, July 4, 2016.

He was born on March 9, 1944 to Leslie James and Lucy (Carter) Hyatt in Starfield, MO.  He grew up in Gower and in 1963 he graduated from Gower High School.  During high school he was the captain of the football team and was a basketball and track star.

On August 2, 1963 he was united in marriage to Linda Adkins.  After their marriage they lived in Gower, they raised their family in Edgerton and in 2008 they moved to Smithville.

David worked for ARMCO and later GST where he retired after several years of service.  He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  David was a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed coaching his boy’s baseball teams.  He loved doing anything he could for the community, but most of all loved his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jay Hyatt and his sister Leanna Brown.

David is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; children Joseph David “Jodie” Hyatt and wife Dawn, Jon Drew Hyatt and wife Shelly and Joshua Dalen Hyatt; grandchildren Lacey Jay Howard and husband Kyle, Michael Jordan Hyatt, Alyssa Dawn Hyatt, Quintin Jackson Hyatt, and Kiefer Lennon Hyatt; great-grandson Kohen Ray Howard; brothers Don Hyatt and Rick Hyatt; sisters Mary Lee Hamby and Kathy Sodowski and husband Glen; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral Services:  11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edgerton.

Burial:  Allen Cemetery, Gower.

Visitation:  6:00-8:00 p.m.  Friday at the church.

    To Linda and family, we are so sorry to hear that David passed away.  Gene wanted me to send a card but I had no idea where you lived now so I decided to go this route.  David was a good friend to Gene and he felt so bad as his health continued to fail.   Peace be with you all.  You are in our prayers.    Gene and Sandy Littrell
