Clarence West

Clarence West, age 87, died peacefully at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care House in Kansas City Missouri on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 10:58 p.m.

He was born August, 28, 1919, in Edgerton, MO to the late Pearl and Mabel West. He attended Rising Sun Grade School and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1937.

Clarence married Laura Lee Foster in 1941 and they lived and farmed around Edgerton for nearly 70 years. In 1956, Clarence and Laura Lee purchased the family farm and lived there until 2003.

Clarence loved to farm, garden and spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed setting out hundreds of tomato plants each year and giving them away to neighbors, friends, and even strangers. Clarence also had a love for John Deere “Green” Tractors. Additionally, he raised, broke, and traded Quarter horses as he loved his horses. Clarence was best known for his honesty and helping those in need.

Clarence was a member of the Dearborn Christian Church where he served as a Communion server for several years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and instrumental in helping start the Dearborn Pleasure Riders Saddle Club.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, J.C., Allen, Earl, and Alonzo; one sister, Marguerite Pulliam and an infant brother.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Laura Lee, his son, Terry Lee West and Sharon Evans of Cameron, MO; his daughter, Micky and W.C Pence, of Smithville, MO; and his daughter; Clareece West, Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren, Trini Sirmans, Dearborn, MO; Dawn Krouse, Sacramento, CA; Brandon Mingee, Smithville, MO; Brett Mingee, Casa Grande, AZ; Sarah Pence, Smithville, MO; Amy Pence, Gower, MO; three great-granddaughters, Alexandria and Cessaly Sirmans and Lixie Krouse; one sister, Betty Lee Boydston, Platte City, MO; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann West, Kansas City, MO and Christine “Crick” West, Louisville, KY, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Hixson Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO.

Visitation: 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Hebron Cemetery, Gower.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
