CHARLES SODEMAN

Charles H. Sodeman, 93, of Edgerton, MO, passed away, Sunday, September 24, 2006 in St. Joseph at the home of family and friends.

He was born on March 26, 1913 to William Roscoe and Jessie Lee (Calvert) Sodeman near Trimble, MO. His family moved to a farm south of Edgerton in 1916, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Charles received a degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was a teacher in Rothville, MO and Warsaw, MO. Charles then served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the Calvary in Kansas and Arizona, and also served with an Infantry Division in France, Germany, and Austria. After his honorable discharge in 1951 he moved back to the Edgerton area, where he engaged in farming and banking. Charles worked for the Bank of Edgerton for many years where he served as president.

On June 12, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mary Lenora McBurney in Phoenix, AZ. After their marriage they lived in Warsaw and in 1951 they moved south of Edgerton where they made their home. His wife, Mary, passed away, May 11, 1999.

He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Edgerton, the Daniel-Shafer American Legion Post, and the VFW Post 4055 in Platte City, Mo.

Charles was also preceded in death by his parents, his son, Charles Howard, brother, William Calvert Sodeman, and one sister, Mildred Burns.

He is survived by one brother, Holt Sodeman, Ada, OK, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28th at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Edgerton.
Burial with military honors: Ridgely Cemetery
Visitation: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Donations may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
