Charles M. Heath

Charles Melvin Heath, 88, of Independence, MO formerly of Edgerton, MO passed away Monday, September 9, 2013.

 

He was born on October 5, 1924 to Charles and Mary Jane (Herdman) Heath in Platte City.  Charles grew up and attended school in Edgerton.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a pharmacist mate assigned to the Marine Corp at Boganville and Guadalcanal. Charles received the Asiatic Pacific Area One Star, the American Area Medal, the Victory Medal WWII, and the Good Conduct Medal.  After his honorable discharge in 1946 he returned home to the family farm.

 

On October 22, 1976 he was united in marriage to Edna Lorene Bixler.  After their marriage they lived in Independence.

 

Charles worked for the Sante Fe Railroad and retired from Montgomery Wards.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Irvin Heath.

 

Charles is survived by his son, Glenn Heath and daughter, Charlene Haas, both of Overland Park, KS; step-daughters, Virginia Halbert, Holden, MO, Ellen (Bill) Hair, Buckner, MO, Pam Musselman, Independence, MO, and Vicki (Dave) Brockman, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Michael E. Heath, Austin (Tarah) Heath, Tara (Kyle) Gillette, Audra (Jason) Ray, Gary Hair, Daina (Tim) Barnes, Shawn Musselman, and Veronica (Markus) Williams; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Noah, Joshua, Justin, Kalyn, Kylie, Keeli, Vann and Madelynn; siblings, Cecil (Wilma) Heath, Trimble, MO, Joann (Steve) Harlan, Potomac, MA, and Leonard (Joyce) Heath, Edgerton, MO; several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.

 

Funeral Service:  12:30 p.m. Friday, September 13th at the Independence First United Methodist Church, Independence, MO with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial:  Ridgely Cemetery.

Visitation:  6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton.
