Charles E. Knighton
Charles E. Knighton, 82 of Platte City, MO passed away January 2, 2018.
He was born on June 12, 1935 to Edward Carpenter and Hazel Maude (Cox) Knighton in Platte City where he grew up and graduated from Platte City High School. Charles served his country in the US Army.
On July 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mildred Nadine Tinder. After their marriage they lived in Platte City where they made their home. Mildred passed away on December 26, 2015.
Charles started his career with Missouri Public Service Utility Company, worked for over 30 years for TWA and later retired from World Span Corporation.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City where he served as past Deacon. Charles was a past board member of the City of Platte City and served as Mayor of Platte City from 1971-1972. He was also a member of the Platte County Fair Board and spent many hours volunteering and working at the fairgrounds.
Charles was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by sons Steven (Dana) Knighton, Platte City, MO and David Knighton, Camden Point, MO; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Kelli, Kole, Hannah, Adam, Jacklyn, and Katelyn; great-grandsons Greg Keenan, Jr, and Brooks Edward Knighton; brother Billy L. Knighton and wife Jody; sisters-in-law Mary Swindler, Marjorie Cox and Nancy Layton; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20th at First Baptist Church of Platte City followed by a Lunch Reception at the Platte County Fairgrounds.
