Cassie Assel
Cassie Sueann Assel, 71, of Smithville, MO passed away, Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
She was born on October 15, 1947 to Frank Stanley and Norma Joe (Brock) Wierzbicki in Excelsior Springs, MO. Cassie grew up un Excelsior Springs where she graduated high school.
On April 13, 1973 she was united in marriage to John Assel. After their marriage they lived in the Smithville area where they made their home.
In earlier years, Cassie worked for Justus Drug and the Smithville School District. She was also very involved in the Smithville Community, and was honored as the Grand Marshall in 2006. Cassie was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Smithville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cassie is survived by her husband, John, of the home; Brian (Shauna) Assel, Jeffrey (Denise) Assel; grandchildren, Blake Assel, Katlyn (Josh) Mendenhall, Kaleb Morcha, Jordan Lewis; great-grandchildren, Madyson Goss, Tyler and Jacob Mendenhall; brothers, Frank Wierzbicki, Jr and Bennie Wierzbicki; sisters, Stephanie Humm, Mary Ann Spicer, and Julie Lowry; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 19th at Community of Christ, Smithville, MO.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial: Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smithville Chamber of Commerce.
Arrangements, Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
There will be a dinner following the service at the Smithville American Legion. If you wish to provide the family with any food during this time, they ask that all food donations be postponed until next week. Food can be taken to the Legion Hall Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
