Carol McDowell

Carol McDowell, 88, of St. Joseph, MO formerly of Gower, MO passed into eternal life, Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

She was born on February 11, 1928 to Marion P. and Ethel May (Ramsey) Thompson in Clinton, WI.  Carol grew up in Clinton, WI and graduated from Clinton High School.

On May 18, 1947 she was united in marriage to William Thomas McDowell, Jr.  After their marriage they lived in Beloit, WI until 1985 when they moved to Gower where they made their home.  Her husband, Bill, passed away June 26, 1989. 

When her children were young, Carol was a Girl Scout Leader.  She worked as a physical therapist at Fair Oaks Healthcare Center in South Beloit, IL for many years.

Carol was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in St. Joseph. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Donald and Dean Thompson, sister Doris Larsen, and a great granddaughter.

Carol is survived by her son, Bill McDowell and wife Peggy; daughters, Cheryl Hardin and husband Richard and Janice Lucas and Tom Wertz; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Delbert Thompson and wife Mary; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22nd at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial:  Allen Cemetery, Gower.

  • It was a pleasure taking care of carol at carriage square. She was very nice lady and will be dearly missed. I am very sorry for your loss. I hope all is well with the family. Take care all of your our in our thoughts and prayers.
