In Remembrance Of
Carl Hackney
Carl Dean Hackney, 74, of Gower, MO passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at his home, with his grandson Richard and great-grandson Michael of the home by his side.
He was born on May 25, 1937 to Forrest Newton and Mammie Floney (Mooney) Hackney in Saddle, AR where he grew up and attended school.
Carl was a farmer most of his life. He started in the cotton fields in southeastern Missouri, he couldn’t wait to leave them and moved to Kansas City, KS and never went back. In 1973 he moved to rural Gower, MO where he made his home. Carl retired from Johnson Controls Battery Division in 1999.
Carl loved being with his “Moto Guzzi” friends. Just couldn’t wait to get the old smoker going, good food, lots of fun and big stories, some true most not. Carl and Alvin Mallot were two old Arkies who couldn’t stay out of the hills. They would get on their “Guzzies” to see how fast they could take those Arkansas Hills and curves. He liked camping out by the rivers and seeing who could tell the tallest tale. Now I bet they are catching up where they left off.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Doyle Hackney and two infant brothers.
Carl is survived by his three children, Debra, Sandy and Doug; several grandchildren including Richard Hackney and Timothy Brown; several great-grandchildren including Michael and David; brother Lloyd Hackney; sisters, Delpia Secrest, Joyce Dunham and husband Ron, Barbara Pierson, Shirley Clark and husband David, Phillis Hogan and Fay Gray; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
