Billy “Bill” Groom Jackson

 

Billy Groom Jackson, 86, of Edgerton, MO, passed away on Friday May 29, 2009 at his home.

He was born on October 10, 1922 to Edward S. and Eileen (Groom) Jackson near Camden Point, MO where he grew up and later graduated from High School. He then served his country in the US Army during WWII. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart; European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with Bronze Star (Rhineland Campaign); two Over Seas Bars; American Theater Ribbon; Victory Ribbon; and Good Conduct Ribbon. He also received the “Special Diploma” from the Government of France for his contribution in the fight to liberate France from the Axis Powers in WWII. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm.

On August 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Foland in Kansas City, MO. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City and Camden Point and in 1957 they moved near Edgerton, MO where they farmed and made their home. They also owned and operated Jackson’s A-G Super Market in Dearborn. His wife, Dorothy passed away on September 24, 1996.

Bill was a member of the Dearborn Fox Hunters Association, and the VFW.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Joan Baber.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Brenda K. Harmer, Edgerton, MO; grandchildren, Timothy of Merriam, KS and Dan and Cory both of Edgerton; niece and nephew Beverley Hershley and Larry Baber both of Camden Point; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 1st at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial with Military Honors: Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely, MO.
