Bill Mahlon Downs
Billy Mahlon Downs, 84, of Plattsburg, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010.
He was born on July 25, 1926 to Mahlon and Ruth Ann (Morrison) Downs. He grew up in rural Grayson and Edgerton areas, and in 1944 graduated from Gower High School.
On December 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Georgeen “Jeanie” Gurley. After their marriage they lived in the Grayson and Edgerton areas and in 1997 moved to Plattsburg. Bill and Jeanie spent their winters in Tucson, AZ, where they were active in Wagons West RV Park activities. His wife, Jeanie passed away on July 16, 2006.
He retired from TWA in 1984 after nineteen years of service. Bill was also a farmer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bill was a member of the Gower Lions Club, the Gower Old Timers Hall of Fame, and served on the Grayson Cemetery board.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and sister and brother, Hugh Lee Downs.
Bill is survived by three children, Debbie Downs, Cameron, MO, Becky Mitchell, Gower, MO, and Rod Downs and wife, Karen, Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Amber Hart and husband Joey, Kristen Fenner and husband Tom, Cody Downs and Bradley Downs, four great-grandsons, Tyler and Brett Fenner and Joshua and Caleb Hart; other relatives and numerous friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 3rd at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
Burial: Grayson Cemetery
Visitation: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

I am so sorry that I did not make it to the visitation last night. Emily and her family were visiting from Texas and Emily and Joe had gone to visit friends and we had little Sam. I really did think a lot of your dad. He was a good guy.
