In Remembrance Of

Betty Foley
Betty Foley was born in the depression on, September 20th, 1934 to Sam Harris and Thelma (Jones) Harris in Pinebluff, AK. Betty lost her mother at an early age and being the oldest, began mothering her 6 younger brothers and mothered she did for her entire life. In her high school years, she moved to Springfield, MO and graduated from Central High School. She worked as a key punch operator at the Gospel Publishing House and later after her kids were older, she went back and worked in the banking room, she was meticulous with numbers and often found mistakes that the bank had made in their checking account. Before arthritis ravaged her body, she enjoyed playing the piano. She played for church and out station services for the AG church. Bob Foley noticed her playing the piano at church and leaned over to his father and said, “that’s the gal I am going to marry”. Bob and Betty married, May 3rd, 1957. They had 2 children, Janice and Curtis whom they raised in Springfield, MO. Betty loved to garden, work in the yard, and grow roses. She loved to feed and watch birds. She was a wonderful southern cook and her most requested meal was her fried chicken. Her grandkids liked to say that grandma was a good feeder. She kept an immaculate home; we often teased her that she practiced surgical technique in the kitchen. She was a member of Northside Assembly of God church in Springfield, MO. In advanced years Bob and Betty needed more help so they moved to the Kansas City area to be near family. Betty loved God and her family so much. Betty’s later years were plagued with pain from advanced arthritis and while she will be sorely missed, we are grateful that she is pain free and at peace.
She is proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Foley, of 67 years; and five of her brothers (Sam, Bobby, Basil, Ross, Roy); and is survived by her brother, James (Cynthia) Harris.
Betty is survived by her children, Janice (Monte) White and Curtis (Sherry) Foley; grandchildren, Joshua White, Sarah (Steven) Walcher, Jacob White, Sara (Chris) Webb, Seth (Erin) Foley, and Aleece (Tyler) Reed; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah White, Eli White, Gabriel White, Carter Reed, and Lucy Reed; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will have a private celebration, thank you for keeping us in your prayers. Losing both Betty and Bob so close together is difficult.

I had the honor of caring for both Betty and Bob at Burlington Creek. Getting know them was a pleasure and the love they had for each other was unmatched. I was there with Betty after Bob passed and she shared many stories about him and their family. We often talked about how we missed him and how much she loved him. Some days were hard but she always pushed through. Betty would always talk to me about the new books she was reading and told me that I could always borrow her books to read because she knew I’d like them. I want to send my condolences to her family and let them know how much Betty was loved.
