Bessie R. Bruce
Bessie R. (Moore) Bruce, 78, of Smithville, Mo., passed away, Monday, January 2, 2006.
She was born on December 1, 1927 to William Marvin and Dollie May (Walker) Moore in Kearney, Missouri, and graduated from Smithville High School.
On October 3, 1951 she was united in marriage to Luther Bruce. After their marriage they farmed near Smithville and in 1995 moved to Smithville where they made their home.
Bessie cooked for the Smithville Kiwanis Club weekly for over 23 years, and also cooked for Justus Drug Store.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 58 in Smithville, a Room Mother, a 4-H Leader, and score keeper at the kids? ballgames. Bessie loved gardening and cooking for her family and all their friends.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Marilyn, brothers, Pete Moore and Bo Moore, sisters, Emma Frances Blankenship, Maurine Moberly, Ethel Marie Lee, Sarah Jo Headrick, and Dorothy Hickman.
She is survived by her husband; Luther, of the home, two sons; Ronnie Bruce and wife, Mary, and Gary Bruce, one daughter, Charlene, four grandchildren, Brian, Kyle, Cody and Caitlyn, brothers; Joseph Moore, Smithville, MO, and Kenneth Moore, Excelsior Springs, MO, sisters; Jean Turnipseed, Balch Springs, TX, Jane West, Smithville, MO, Alice Crooks, Kansas City, MO, and Erma Nell Herring, Smithville, MO, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends..
Services: 11:00 A.M., Thursday, Jan. 5th, at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
Burial: I.O.O. F. Cemetery Smithville, Mo.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
