In Remembrance Of

Barbara Fegan

Barbara K. Fegan passed away at home on Sunday, October 8, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on November 19, 1940, the youngest child of Harvey and Alta Harmon from Pattonsburg Missouri.

Barbara dedicated her time and resources to helping those in need.  She was a Trustee of the Board of St. Luke’s Foundation, Chairman of the St. Luke’s North Foundation Board, and a member of the St. Luke’s Home Care and Hospice Board.  Barbara was instrumental in raising funds to build the St. Luke’s Hospice House on Southwest Trafficway and was responsible for the design, creation and funding of the beautiful “Tree of Life” stained glass window which graces the facility’s chapel.

She also served on the Geary Community Hospital Board where the Tom and Barbara Fegan Intensive Care Unit was named in honor of Barbara and her husband Tom.  She served on a number of boards and advisory boards including the Midwest Innocence Project and Medical Mission Foundation.

Barbara’s greatest commitment and love was to her daughters and extended family.  She loved to needlepoint, paint and enjoyed crafting.

The love of her life was Tom Fegan and they were married on September 25, 1987.  They lived in Junction City, Kansas where Tom served as Mayor and Barbara continued her community service.  Tom preceded Barbara in death in 1998.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Laura Welch, Robin Corderman (Barry) and Stacy Schneider; grandchildren Justin Bridges (Melissa), Kent Bridges and Sheldon Kronewitter; great grandchildren Kaylee and Cason Bridges; sister Lucille Severe (Bill); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private Family services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to:  Saint Luke’s Home Care & Hospice c/o Saint Luke’s Foundation, 4225 Baltimore, Kansas City, MO 64111.

I was there at the grand opening and the prayer service for the Hospice House. It is beautiful and the tree of life is a wonderful memorial to her legacy and everything she believed in. This tree will grow on and on, touching so many lives who will transition from life to death. Thank you for sharing your life with us Barbara! You were more than a blessing. You are a tree of blessing. Many leaves, many branches; many more leaves and branches will bloom in their places.
