Anna Laura (Scott) Matney
Anna Laura (Scott) Matney, 89, of Gower, MO, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010.
She was born on May 11, 1921 to Washington Wade and Laura Maria (Winn) Scott in Edgerton, Missouri. She graduated from Edgerton High School and William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri.
On October 7, 1945 she was united in marriage to Edward Ross Matney, Jr.
They lived on the Matney family farm in rural Gower where they raised their six children. Anna Laura’s husband Ed passed away in 1971.
Anna Laura was a member of the Dearborn United Methodist Church, the Fun and Friendship Club, and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and needlework.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Wade Winn Matney in 1975, and John Scott Matney in 2009; and her five brothers and sisters.
Anna Laura is survived by her family: Edward Ross Matney and Susan DeVico of Oakland, CA; William Thomas and Susan Matney of Dearborn, MO; Anna Laura and Peter Cecil of Brunei; Susan Catharine and David Bell of St. Louis, MO; Corinne Smith; grandchildren, Rachel Mila Matney and Fritz Bogott, Mary Shoshanna Matney, Edward Anders Matney, MaryAnn Joy Matney, Julian Scott Cecil, Claire Louise Cecil and Sarah Emily Bell; great-grandchildren, Mila Shoshanna Matney and Marika Carolyn Matney, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Memorial Service: 3:00pm, Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Dearborn United Methodist Church for Anna Laura, with a remembrance for her deceased son, Scott Matney, who passed away in December.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm – 3:00pm prior to the service.
Private inurnment at Davis Chapel Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Davis Chapel Cemetery or the Dearborn United Methodist Church.
