Anna Gertrude (Spurgeon) Matthys
Anna Gertrude Matthys, 87, of Camden Point, MO, passes away Monday April 21, 2008.
She was born on March 30, 1921 to Robert M. and Gertrude H. (Bogue) Spurgeon in Clay County near Smithville, MO where she grew up and in 1939 graduated from Smithville High School.
On June 17, 1939 she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Matthys. After their marriage they lived in rural Platte County. In 1989 they moved to Camden Point where they made their home. Her husband, Joseph passed away on October 10, 2002.
Ann worked various jobs in the area and was a clerk for the Platte County Water Supply District #8 for several years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert W. and Harold E. Spurgeon.
Ann is survived by two sons, Robert Matthys and wife, Peggy and Al Matthys and wife, Debbie, all of Camden Point, MO; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Ranee, Bobby, Rhonda and Gary; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Charles J. Matthys and wife, Ella Mae, Kansas City, MO, several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Burial: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville
Visitation: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
