Alvin Klusman

Alvin Art Klusman, Jr, 83, of Kearney, MO passed away January 9, 2025.

He was born on October 2, 1941, to Alvin Art Sr. and Mildred Brooks (Cairns) Klusman in Kansas City, MO. Alvin grew up in the Smithville area and graduated from Smithville High School in 1959. Alvin attended William Jewell College in Liberty, MO where he studied physics and mathematics and played football. On May 26,1962 he was united in marriage to Jane Shepherd. They were married over 20 years and raised their seven children in Smithville. Alvin later made his home in Kearney.

Alvin was an active member of the Faith Baptist Church in Smithville where he served as the song leader, youth director and in other roles. Alvin loved to sing and play his autoharp. Alvin worked as a lead-man at General Motors and retired with over 45 years of service.

Alvin “Torque” loved building and racing vintage go-karts. He had a passion for competing with his karts at events throughout the country. His efforts earned him numerous trophies and accolades. Alvin was an active member of the Indian Council of Many Nations, an intertribal corporation. He held various officer positions and dedicated countless hours to perpetuate and promote the history, traditions, and beliefs of the American Indians and to promote the education and social welfare of Indian youth.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Darin Klusman.

Alvin is survived by his children, Danna Klusman (Dennis), Dawn (Mike) Andrus, Dee Ann (Mark) Claus, Daniel Klusman, Doug Klusman, and Desri King; their mother, Jane Driver; grandchildren, Kris, Kevin, George, Mollie, Maggie, and Coleson; three great-grandchildren, PJ, Kody and Emma, brother, Alexander Klusman; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
