Alma Ruth Taylor Sego

 

Alma Taylor Sego, 106, of Smithville, MO, passed away, March 9, 2011.

She was born on December 18, 1904 to Bishop Marvin and Mattie Lou (Taylor) Moody in Montgomery, Alabama where she attended school and grew up.

She was united in marriage to Lewis Wesley Taylor. After their marriage they lived in Montgomery, Alabama and later moved to Tuskegee, Alabama, where they raised their family. Her husband, Lewis, passed away in 1951. She later married S.T. Sego and they lived in Tuskegee. He preceded her in death in 1988. Alma later moved to Montgomery to be near her sister, Lee Brown. She later followed her to Florida to care for her in her illness. Her sister passed away, and Alma moved to Smithville. Missouri.

Alma was very proud to have a dual career of being a florist and also a soloist. She worked late hours making and delivering flowers for funerals and weddings, and was also called to sing at these events. She was an active member and sang in the choir at Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery. Alma later became a member of the Emmanuel Bible Church in Smithville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Walter, Gerald, and Claude, and one sister, Lee.

Alma is survived by her three sons, Lewis Wesley Taylor, Jr. and wife Betty, James Walter Taylor and wife Alma, and George Marvin Taylor and wife Donna; former daughter-in-law, Sandy Lester and her daughter, Emily; seven grandchildren, Christy, Maria, Steven, Susan, Ruth, Alice and Shawn; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Sat., March 12th at Emmanuel Bible Church, Smithville. Burial: Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, Montgomery, AL 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
