Alice J. (McMillen) Payne
Alice J. Payne, 64, of Smithville, MO, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at her home.
She was born on January 11, 1945 to Ray Albert and Dorothy Rachel (Bell) McMillen in Denver, CO.
On July 29, 1961 she was united in marriage to Harold James Payne. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.
Alice worked for LaPetite Academy in Gladstone for over 20 years where she was recognized as a successful director.
She was involved in many artistic endeavors, was a prize winning baker and loved hosting family gatherings.
Alice was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, Harold of the home; daughter, Sherrie Gomez, Smithville; son, Raymond Payne, Pueblo, CO; grandchildren, Nina Gomez, Thea Gomez and Bria Seymour; four great-grandchildren, Jada, Kylie, Delani, and Derek; her mother, Dorothy Butler, Overland Park, KS; sisters, Loretta Cawelti, Denver, CO, Patricia Coleman, Lenexa, KS, Karen Maggio, Evergreen, CO, Debbie Kern, Overland Park, KS; many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21st at Second Creek Cemetery, Kansas City, MO
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Alice was always an inspiration to those around her. She was a mentor and friend. My heart goes out to the family as I know there will be a huge void with her gone. No one can replace Alice Payne. She was one in a million!
