Alberta “Petey” Preddy
Alberta "Petey" Preddy, 82, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away, Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in her home.
She was born on September 13, 1927 to James Edward and Nell M. (Horn) Sturman in Emporia, Kansas where she grew up and graduated from Emporia High School.
On June 8, 1947 she married Eugene Charles Mounkes. After their marriage they farmed near Emporia. Her husband, Gene, passed away August 7, 1953. On November 4, 1956 she was united in marriage to Charles C. Preddy. She and Charles lived in St. Joseph, where they made their home until 1989 when they began traveling. They spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas and their summers in Carthage, MO until 2005. They returned to St. Joseph where they enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their great-grandchildren.
Petey, who was affectionately known to her family as “Maw Maw”" enjoyed needlework, gardening, canning, fishing and puzzles. She was a member of the California Raisin Fan Club, and loved to make deviled "Maw Maw" eggs for her great-grandchildren. Her humor and zest for life will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Eugene, and one sister, Virginia Greenlee.
Petey is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; two children, Sue Barton and husband, Rick, St. Joseph; and Jim Mounkes and wife, Marge, Gower; three grandchildren, Josh Barton and wife, Dana, Nick Barton and wife, Hanna, Mandy Klein and husband, Corey; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Trevor, Vivian, and Cole.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association or charity of donors choice.
