Albert William Holmes

Albert William Holmes, 77, of Smithville, MO, passed away September 29, 2007.

He was born on December 18, 1929 to Earl Keith and Jessie (King) Holmes in Kansas City, Kansas where he attended elementary school and Wyandotte High School.

On June 12, 1949, Al was united in marriage to Jackie Tabor. Al served his country in the US Navy where he served as a hospital corpsman and was a deep sea diver. Al retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. After his honorable discharge Al and his family moved back to Independence where they made their home. His wife, Jackie, passed away on September 13, 1986.

Al was later united in marriage to Florence (Breckenridge) Williams. After their marriage they lived in Smithville, MO where they made their home.

He worked for Milgrim Food Stores in Kansas City, MO as a warehouse manager until he retired in 1987.

Al was a member of the Smithville United Methodist Church where he had served on the church board, he was a past member of the College Heights Methodist Church in Kansas City and was a volunteer at Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Al is survived by his wife, Florence of the home, daughter Kathy Pietoso and husband, Tony, St. Louis, MO; son, Keith Holmes and wife, Jan, Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, Todd Pietoso and wife, Francesca, Ande and Kye Pietoso and Erin and Chris Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Jack, his wife’s sons, Brent Williams, San Francisco, CA, and Breck Williams and wife, Kelly, Lee’s Summit, MO and their children, several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8th at the Smithville United Methodist Church.

Burial with Military Honors: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO

Visitation: 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville.

Donations may be made to Smithville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the American Cancer Society.
